Here are the answers to some of the questions sent in to Darcey.

When did you perform your first ballet?
I was 13 years old, in my first year at the Royal Ballet school and it was a Royal Ballet School performance at the Opera House.

What ballets did you get the chance to take part in during your time at White Lodge?
The only Royal Ballet performance I took part in was Sleeping Beauty. I did, however, take part in School performances on the Opera House stage.

Did everything just come naturally to you or were there things that took a long time to develop?
I developed very slowly but believe that if you really want it, it will happen in time.

Is it worth giving up late nights out and university life for hard work, when you may not make it to being a ballerina in the end?
Only if you enjoy it.

What do you do to stay calm and prepare yourself just before an important performance?
I find speaking to myself at the side of the stage helps keep me calm and focused.

What do you do to improve your dancing and to make the role that you are performing more real and believable?
I try to read as much about the role as possible and, of course, listening to my coaches is very important, as they have so much knowledge.

I have often wondered how difficult it is for dancers to get 'in character' before a dance.
I find it is the music that always helps me get into a character.

What kind of relationship do you have with the other principal ballerinas, and are soloists and corps de ballet jealous of your success?

We all get on very well but are not close friends. I'm not aware of any jealousy within the company.

Do you ever watch ballet other than the Royal Ballet? If so, what do you think of it?
I try to see as many different companies as possible but I am always too critical.

Do you have to warm down after a show or is straight home for supper
I'll do a small stretch after a show and then it's home.
